Short-Term Disability Insurance FAQs

Why Should I Get Short-Term Disability Insurance?
Elise Insurance Group’s Short-Term Disability Insurance helps replace a portion of your income if you’re unable to work due to a serious illness or injury. In many cases, the policy covers a percentage of your weekly or monthly income, allowing you to use the funds for essential expenses like rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, loan payments, and childcare. With Short-Term Disability Insurance from Elise Insurance Group, you can have peace of mind knowing you’re financially protected if a health condition prevents you from working.
To find the right amount of short-term disability insurance, consider how long you could manage financially if faced with a short-term disability. Then, calculate the monthly income needed to support yourself and your loved ones, factoring in expenses like mortgage payments, loans, and groceries. Finally, determine what premium fits within your budget.
Most insurance companies allow you to file a claim online through their website. You may also have the option to submit a claim via a mobile app, phone, or mail. For specific details on the claims process, contact your insurer directly.
Each short-term disability insurance plan has a unique benefit period, typically lasting several months, though some may extend up to a year. If you need coverage for a longer duration, consider a long-term disability insurance plan.
The key differences between short-term and long-term disability insurance are the duration of coverage and the types of conditions covered. Short-term disability insurance typically provides benefits for several months to a year, covering temporary illnesses or injuries that prevent you from working. In contrast, long-term disability insurance offers coverage for two years or more, protecting against chronic conditions and prolonged illnesses or injuries that impact your ability to work.
